The project “ADaPT4Future: ADult People create Technologies for their Future” is gaining momentum! On September 19-23, 2022, an international training event took place in Kaunas, where 15 librarians, FabLAB employees, teachers and volunteers from Lithuania, Poland and Italy participated. The participants were delegated by the project partners: Kaunas Vincas Kudirka Public Library, Comune di Santarcangelo di Romagna and Fundacja NOVA.

The training took place in Vincas Kudirka’s public library. The event was facilitated by the staff of the School of Robotics. The principles and methods of adult training were introduced by a training participant from Poland, Fundacja NOVA organization.

During the five-day training, the participants received theoretical and practical foundation of 3D printing, prepared their own creative projects, and shared experiences and ideas. The aim of this training was to prepare the participants for conducting a 3D workshop with a target group of adult learners. In the project, we have planned to invite to the workshops mostly 20-45 year olds who want to get acquainted with 3D technology.

Training participants got acquainted with the possibilities of 3D technologies, learned three-dimensional modeling and delved into the principles of 3D printer operation. Some of the participants already had some experience in this field, but some of them were completely new to 3D knowledge. Most of the work was done with TinkerCAD and Onshape programs, which will also be used during local workshops. Participants had several creative tasks to complete, during which they had to create a certain object by working individually or in pairs.

And not only that: the most important goal of the workshop is to creatively use the capabilities of 3D and other technologies to repair damaged or broken items by creating a missing part or detail. For this task, a table with legs that no longer had their original anchoring was chosen. The participants had to create and print a part that would connect the tabletop with the table legs.

All teams developed different solutions. The teams presented their projects, identified the advantages and disadvantages of their project, discussed possible ways of improvement or what should be done differently next time.

This principle of a 3D workshop will soon move to libraries, FabLabs and community centers in partner countries. In Lithuania alone we will offer the opportunity to participate in the classes to at least 100 adults! Activities in Lithuania will start in November 2022 and will be held in Vilnius and Kaunas.

The project is co-financed by the European Commission under the “Erasmus+” program.
